I don’t remember the last time one of these posts showed up so I thought I’d share a funny video of a japanese show (always weird ones there) where they struggle to pronounce Massachusetts

Not sure why it would be that difficult. Ma-sa-chu-se-tsu.
edit: watched a bit, I’d wager it’s because it’s an unfamiliar word, they’re trying to read it quickly, and the double consonants are interfering. I don’t believe there’s anything in Japanese which “maps” to a double “s,” and a double “t” would voice both “t”s separately. e.g. where we would say “Nitto” as if there was only one “t,” the correct way would be “nit-to.”
English is a fucker to learn as a second language.

I wonder if part of the word sounds dirty in Japanese or something. Like the way we snicker at Fukuoka .
